Happy Nurses’ Week! Call To Action!

Dear Colleagues,

I sincerely hope you are all taking time to reflect on the impact you have on people’s lives every day and allowing yourself to take pride in what you do! This week calls us all to remember the times we have felt truly connected with our patients. That feeling, those memories, are what sustain us. I encourage you to celebrate those moments openly because they speak to the core of who we are and what we do!

I want to take this year to be a little controversial and encourage you to think about the balance of compassion with evidence in your own practice. My years of experience have taught me that the two are not mutually exclusive. In fact, I have seen colleagues practicing solely out of compassion without incorporating evidence-based practice and others focused totally on evidence-based practice without keeping their eye on compassion. In my mind, the ART of nursing goes beyond making patients better…we are also responsible for making patients and their families FEEL better.

This is when we are the best selves we can be.

I want you to share your stories!  “I am glad” and “wish I had” stories are relatable to us all, so during this week, feel free to share it all!  Overwhelmingly, I have heard from members of the Chapter community tis hat you are looking ways to feel connected with colleagues in Boston. I can’t think of a better way to feel connected than sharing our experiences with each other!

On behalf of the Board, and all the patients’ lives you have touched, I hope you feel the tru spiriti of this week’s acknowlgement. You are special and can’t be thanked enough!

Post your stories!

John
