The Greater Boston Chapter of AACN Board wishes all its members a happy and healthy new year. There may be mixed emotions entering into 2018 some may be grateful 2017 is over hoping for a better year while others are sad to see it end.
Reflecting on GBC’s accomplishments in 2017 we have seen a few changes. First we changed our look as we transitioned to Nursing Network's platform which streamlines registrations for membership renewal, events and keeps our member updated on current events and potential job offerings. Donna White was the key note speaker for our Spring Celebration, Donna emphasized as care givers we must not forget to care for ourselves so that we can better care for our patients. In April we co-hosted Regis College’s Emerging Trends in Critical Care poster session. We had a wonderful turn out with posters from various health agencies throughout the city.
Sadly we said goodbye to two of our longtime board members who retired from the board of directors but remain active members: Donna Rosborough and Nancy Bittner, their dedication, commitment to excellence and their numerous contributions to the board over the past years will be greatly missed. We welcomed two new boards members Joanne Rosato and Tracey Fagan. Norine Leaver was newly elected as our chapter secretary and Diane McAleer was elected president-elect. In September our members enjoyed a program in Norwood at Sky restaurant sponsored by Bristol–Myers Squibb on the Treatment of Non-valvular Atrial Fibrillation and the risk of Thromboembolic Stroke.
2018 looks to be an exciting year for the Greater Boston Chapter of AACN as we once again prepare to co-host Emerging Trends in Critical Care with Regis College on April 12th. I hope everyone has seen our call for abstracts for poster and podium presentations which are due by February 1st . GBC is also currently accepting applications through Nursing Networks for educational scholarships deadline for spring semester applications end February 15th. On February 15th Newton Wellesley Hospital is hosting our community outreach program on BioMarkers for AKI sponsored by Astute Medical. Please register for event on: https://gbcaacn.nursingnetwork.com. AACN’s Horizon Conference will beheld October 9th ,10th , & 11th at the Radisson Hotel in Manchester New Hampshire. GBC will be offering CCRN/PCCN review course on October 17th ,18th , & 19th look on Nursing Networks for further details and registration information.
GBC will be co-hosting with Merrimack Valley and New Hampshire Seacoast chapters as we welcome AACN’s National Teaching Institute (NTI) Critical Care Symposium to Boston on May 20th-24th. GBC board members Marcia Bixby and Norine Leaver will be accepting with the Horizon’s planning committee 2 Circle of Excellence awards which will be presented during NTI sessions.
Lastly, GBC will be celebrating a milestone as we prepare to celebrate our 45th Anniversary as a chapter. There will be a reception at the Weston Hotel on Monday evening May 21st at the completion of the day one sessions. We are currently in the planning phase of our program and hope that many of our members will be able to join us in remembering our past and embracing our future as a chapter, more details to follow.
